CARBOMER 940: High Purity, short rheology, high viscosity, high definition, low ion resistance and shear resistance.
VISCOSITY: Carbomer 940 is a free-flowing polymer powder which is used as a gelling / thickening agent which helps to control the viscosity and flow of cosmetic products without a sticky feel that is easily absorbed.
DESCRIPTION: Carbopol 940 is acid used as thickening, dispersing, suspending and emulsifying agents in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. They may be homo polymers of acrylic acid, cross linked with an allyl ether pentaerythritol, allyl ether of sucrose or allyl ether of propylene.
FUNCTION: Excellent thickening efficiency at high viscosity and sparkling clear transparency is possible in aqueous or hydroalcoholic solutions. Suitable for use in cosmetics. Carbomer940 used in Pharmaceutical gels and ointment, Hand Sanitizer, facial Care Products, Toothpaste, Shampoos, Cleansing cream, Skin fresher, Hair, skin and moisturizing creams, Shaving and sunscreen creams.
The Ph of the distilled water must be neutral at 6.5 to 7. You can use potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide or TEA.
Weigh out your distilled water and check the ph using a ph strip or ph meter. The only way for the carbomer to swell is with a neutral ph. Add a little sodium hydroxide or tea and retest your water. When you have achieved a ph of between 6.5 to 7, your water is ready for the carbomer.
Sprinkle the carbomer into the distilled water and let hydrate for 5 min., then mix well with a stick blender until the powder seems fully dissolved and the mixture has thickened to a gel. Make sure to add a preservative.
DIRECTIONS: Simply balanced with Triethanolamine (TEA) or sodium hydroxide, Carbomer 940 forms a gel when it is hydrated, and the PH is neutralized. Using a ratio of 1.5g of Triethanolamine (TEA) and 1g – 1.5g of carbomer 940 thoroughly mixed and hydrated will create a gel.
