SMCT is a bio-based surfactant associated with a wide range of sectors including laundry detergents, foods, cosmetics, personal care products, etc. Taurates, which are bio-based ionic surfactants, have gained considerable interest in hair care and baby care industry. As one of the very few class of anionic surfactants that combine the advantages of strong detergency with no loss of performance in hard water, stability to hydrolysis in acid or alkaline medium; soap-like mildness to skin; and easy biodegradability.

Sodium methyl cocoyl taurate (SMCT), derived from coconut and a salt of coconut fatty acid amide of N-methyltaurine, is the most commonly used taurate by formulators looking for high-foaming, mild surfactants for baby or adult skin and hair care products.

Mix with other surfactants (anionic or nonionic) at a concentration of 1-10%. For external use only.
Applications:  Shampoos, detergent bars, bubble bath, shower gels but also facial cleansers due to its mildness.

Excellent choice for secondary surfactant

I use SCMI in shampoo bars as the secondary surfactant. Very mild and contributes to a lovely lather but I do wish it would come in powder form. It does take a very long time to melt it totally and as the flakes can be very sharp they really must be thoroughly melted down.
