Combine with madder root powder for a nice red
![[ tip: Combine powdered madder root with powdered alkanet root for more color variance when making dyes. ~ from Monterey Bay Herb Company ]](https://www.herbco.com/images/page/productguide/PROD-REC-599-alkanet-root-powder.jpg)
Country of origin: Pakistan
The most effective way to use it as a natural colourant is to infuse your liquid oil; Add 1 tablespoon of powdered alkanet into 5 ounces of MCT (fractionated coconut oil) into a jar and let it infuse for a week or two shaking it once a day.
2 Tbsp. (filtered) infusion provides a nice purple to approximately 3 pounds (1.36 kg) of soap.
Please note - this is a natural product, thus color may vary from batch to batch - brown to purple-brown.
I struggled for months to find the right product to color my Lavender soaps and the Alkanet Root Powder from Soap & More is amazing and I'm super happy with the results!
I used this natural dye to color my soap purple. There were very few instructions on how to use it so i looked online and learned it needs to be infused in oil for 6 months-1 year then strained out to extract the most color. Meanwhile that oil is close to getting rancid and hasn’t even entered the soap yet. I infused mine in a hot water bath for 3 hrs and got a deep reddish color in the oil. Once added to the soap batter, I got a light grey color from it in my soap once cured. Either it’s a low quality, or it needs much longer and slower infusing…this natural dye is probably better suited for fabric than soap. Or else you need to plan for your soap 1 year ahead.
Gives a nice color. Using in an oil infusion.
Could you make a kit or recomend a recipe without baking soda! The glycerine based ones don't seem to wrk and I've only found 1 company that does it right called attitude. Anyway would be a market for it for sure✔✔
Awesome service
Works wonders
The best coco oil ever
I have been making soap since 1973. I haver had several suppliers of fragrance from the US. It was pleasing to purchase the oatmeal fragrance from this Calgary company. All of my soap goes to the Red Deer Food Bank. I get no feedback from their clients, but my friends who use my soap are pleased with this new fragrance.
