Glycerites DIY

March 24, 2025

To formulate a glycerite you can infuse fresh or powdered plant material in glycerin.  Glycerites can be used in skincare.  It can be added to formulations for properties and colour.

Steps
  1.  Prepare ingredients

Select your plant material, fresh or dried.

    Fill jar
Weigh out 70% glycerin and 30% plant material by weight. Add the plant material to a clean jar. For fresh plants, add enough glycerin to cover the plant material. For dried plants, dilute glycerin with enough distilled water to combine prior to adding to the glycerin otherwise it will clump up.
     Macerate
Put a lid on your jar and let the mixture set for 7 to 10 days. Shake the jar daily. You’ll notice the glycerin start to take on the colour of your infusing ingredient. The glycerin will  become thinner or more fluid. This is normal, as the water-soluble constituents are pulled into the glycerin. Cover the jar and let it sit in a dark place at room temperature for 4–6 weeks. Shake the jar every day or two
     Strain
Line a strainer with cheesecloth or muslin and strain the mixture if fresh or non powder herbs are used. Squeeze the plant material to extract all the glycerite.
    Bottle and label
Pour the glycerite into a clean bottle and label it with the contents and date.
Storage and shelf life:  2 years (depending on the plant material) when kept in a cool dark place.

Whipped Grass Fed Tallow Face & Body Cream

March 21, 2025

Imagine a luxurious hydrating cream without waxes or emulsifiers!  What a dream!

For skincare, grass-fed tallow generally boasts a more nutrient-rich profile than grain-fed tallow, with higher levels of omega-3s, CLA, and antioxidants, potentially leading to enhanced skin hydration, reduced inflammation, and improved elasticity. It is a semi occlusive rich, making it ideal for a clean beauty collective of natural products that creates a breathable barrier for smoother, softer skin.

The result is a soft, smooth skin healing product that does not carry a beefy smell. Tallow is full of vitamins and minerals that are good for your skin without using any harmful chemicals.   Grass Fed Whipped cream has a fluffy, velvety consistency that glides effortlessly over skin, without feeling greasy.

We have added Blue Algae Extract glycerite for a natural blue hue.  Blue Algae is a rare nutrient pigment in the current natural pigment varieties. It is not only bright, but also rich in nutrients. Furthermore, it has anti-aging properties.

We gave a blog here to formulating your own glycerite to follow

Ingredients

90% Grass fed tallow

8% Avocado Oil (or other soft oil)

2% Castor oil

Blue Algae Extract (optional)

Essential Oil (optional)

-Avocado Oil softens, increases elasticity, leaves no greasy residue and moisturizes the skin.

Hydrating Beef Tallow Balm

February 25, 2025

Tallow is considered good for skin because its fatty acid composition closely resembles the natural oils (sebum) produced by our skin, allowing it to effectively replenish lost lipids, hydrate the skin barrier, and improve overall skin resilience by mimicking the natural structure of our cell membranes; additionally, it contains fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E, and K which can further support cell regeneration and skin health.

  • Hydrating beef tallow balm has been gaining popularity in the skincare industry due to its nourishing properties. But what exactly makes this balm so effective? Let's delve into the science behind this hydrating powerhouse.

    What is Beef Tallow Balm?

Beef tallow balm is a skincare product made from rendered beef fat. It is rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, as well as antioxidants like selenium. These nutrients work together to hydrate and nourish the skin, promoting a healthy complexion.

How Does it Hydrate the Skin?

The high concentration of fatty acids in beef tallow balm makes it an excellent moisturizer. These fatty acids create a protective barrier on the skin, preventing moisture loss and keeping the skin hydrated. Additionally, the vitamins and antioxidants in the balm help to repair and rejuvenate the skin, leaving it soft and supple.

Benefits of Hydrating Beef Tallow Balm

Studies have shown that beef tallow balm can improve skin hydration by up to 50% compared to traditional moisturizers. This makes it a great choice for those with dry or sensitive skin. The balm is also non-comedogenic, meaning it won't clog pores, making it suitable for all skin types.

How to Use Beef Tallow Balm

To reap the benefits of hydrating beef tallow balm, simply apply a small amount to clean, dry skin. Massage the balm gently until it is fully absorbed. For best results, use the balm twice daily, in the morning and evening, to keep your skin hydrated and healthy.

    Conclusion

Hydrating beef tallow balm is a natural and effective way to nourish and hydrate the skin. With its rich nutrient profile and moisturizing properties, this balm is a must-have in any skincare routine. Give it a try and experience the science-backed benefits for yourself!

    Ingredients

90 grams beef tallow preferably grass fed

30 grams "light" oil of choice such as sunflower, apricot kernel, avocado or almond oil

20 drops essential oils favourites include rose tea tree, lavender, frankincense, orange

    Instructions

Over medium-low heat, gently melt until tallow is just about melted, take off the heat.
If it is too hot to hold a finger in, let cool until you can hold a finger in for a few seconds.
    Add essential oils, stir well.
Let cool either in the pot or transfer to the bowl of your stand mixer. You want it to cool so it isn't liquid, but not return to a fully solid state.
Once cool, whip like buttercream! It goes very quickly, so keep watch on it.
Scoop into desired containers and label.

Use it as a lip balm for great moisturizing results.
