Gluconolactone & Sodium Benzoate EcoCert
Also known as Geogard Ultra, GSB or Neodefend.
The ingredients inside our GSB preservative are:
Broad-spectrum activity, ECOCERT/COSMOS-accepted
Add to the cold or hot water phase, do not wait before mixing as this may result in a slight gelling effect which will prevent full solubilisation and result in cloudiness.
Cover the gram-negative bacteria (escherichia coli) gap with optiphen plus.
Free-flowing powder mild odour, characteristic water-soluble store tightly sealed, normal temperatures, protected from moisture shelf 1 yr. when stored properly.
Use levels .075% to 2.0% dissolve in your water phase. ie 4 teaspoons per liter of lotion. Not suitable for use in anhydrous formula (due to incompatibility)
Effective within pH range: below pH 5
Globally approved (at 2.0% usage in a formulation, only 0.495% sodium benzoate)
Always add to room temperature water, prior to heating
Not for use in products which contain food colours or Vit C (due to an undesirable chemical reaction which may convert the sodium benzoate to its acidic state (benzoic acid)
Once added, to water, do not wait before mixing as this may result in a slight gelling effect which will prevent full solubilisation and result in cloudiness
INCI: Gluconodeltalactone (and) Sodium Benzoate ECOCERT
Non Gmo
This is one of my favourite broad-spectrum preservatives as it can be added to the heated water phase, works great in a shampoo bar as it's a powder, and it doesn't have any scent. It does require a buffer solution (sodium citrate, as recommended by the manufacturer) in order to prevent the pH from drifting downward in your formulations and possibly destabilizing your formula, but once you get the hang of stabilizing it, it's AMAZING! No need for Optiphen Plus (which is not accepted in natural formulations anyway). Usage rate is actually 0.75 - 2% (not 0.075%). A little goes a long way!
