(makes 4-6 small-medium size)
Bath Bombs are like giant alka-seltzers for the bath - they spin, whirl and swirl in the bath while releasing scent and skin-softening agents. They will make bath time SUPER fun! Your individual choices will make this a wonderful creation!
Dry ingredients
1.5 cup Baking soda
1.5 tsp White Kaolin Clay
3/4 cup Citric acid
4 tsp Lathanol powder fine or coarse
4 tsp powdered milk
Mini Scoop Water soluble dye or mica (avoid ultramarines as the mixutre will smell like sulphur.
Wet ingredients
4 tsp Sweet Almond oil (or other soft oil)
1 tsp plant-based emulsifier or Poly 80
1/2 to 1 tsp Essential oil or Fragrance oil
Natural colouring options (IMPORTANT: ADD ONLY A PINCH OF COLOURANT, AS TOO MUCH COULD TEMPORARILY TINT YOUR SKIN AND TUB.)
Pinch - Spirulina powder, red beetroot powder, spinach powder, kelp powder, etc.
Directions
In a bowl: mix dry ingredients very well, or the result is a grainy bomb. Once blended really well, add the wet ingredients and combine until the colour is well blended.
When you are able to squeeze the mixture in your hand so it sticks together, it is ready.
Note: The mixture is ready when – it is the consistency of very dry pastry (just starting to hold together when pressed in your hand). Ensure it is well mixed – the side of the container and spatula shouldn’t be wet. Try to work quickly so that it doesn't dry out too much before it is molded. If it seems too dry, add a little witch hazel at a time to get the mixture to holds well in the mold.
Overfill the mixture in molds or press and press down as hard as you can– wait a few seconds and tap them out. Allow to air dry for 3 or 4 hours, and voilà! The result is wonderful, hard bath bombs. Harder packed bath bombs produce denser, heavy, and more durable bombs.
Usage
Drop into bath…the result is beautiful and wonderful and can be used same day! Freshly crafted bath bombs will sink, try waiting a few days.
Painting Bath bombs using micas is fun. Use 1 TB denatured alcohol to ½ tsp mica with a few drops of plant-based emulsifier. Mix and paint your bombs!
Ingredient Features
Baking soda is also known as soda bicarbonate (sodium hydrogen carbonate, NaHCO). Since early times, baking soda has been used as baking powder, abrasive, deodorant, cleaner, and skin soother. It is the weakest alkali among sodium compounds. Baking soda is a skin softener and relaxant in the bath.
Citric acid is one of the most widely used acids in the cosmetic industry; it is derived from citrus fruit by fermentation of crude sugars. It is used as a preservative to adjust acid-alkali balance, it removes dead skin cells; and removes and/or reduces oil.
Kaolin Clay White: Good for soothing sensitive skin & acne. Like all other clays such as bentonite and rhassoul clay, kaolin clay also has detoxifying properties. It absorbs toxins from deep within the pores thereby clearing them out.
Milk Powder (i.e., goat’s milk) is a whole milk, which has properties, which helps condition the skin. It helps balance the PH of dry or aging skin. Coconut or buttermilk powder can also be used.
Plant Based Emulsifier: Helps emulsify the oil, so it does not sit on top of the water. It also helps with some colours to avoid the dreaded bath ring.
Sweet Almond oil: Moisturizing or other liquid oil

The luxurious butters add special attention to winter dry & itchy skin!
• 14 grams beeswax (15 %)
• 24 grams avocado oil (26 %)
• 12 grams fractionated coconut oil (14 %)
• 21 grams shea butter (23%)
• 23 grams cocoa butter (21%)
• 1 gram vitamin E oil (0.10%)
• 0.9 gram scent (1 %)
1. Melt all but the Vit E and scent in a double boiler on low, medium heat until melted. Do not overheat as it will degrade the ingredients. Remove from the heat.
2. Add vitamin E oil, and scent stir and pour into containers.
3. Put into the fridge for 1 hour or more to avoid shea butter crystallization. (grainy)
NOTE: If you find the final product is too hard, add more soft oil, it it is too soft decrease the soft oils. Your climate contributes to how stiff the formula is.
This formula can be altered to accommodate a more simple perfume bar by changing around the butters for something like solid coconut oil. We all learn by trying. The % enable you to shrink down the formula to sample sizes for your R&D.
Yields approx 6 x 15 gram containers. You can also pour into small molds to avoid packaging.
If you do not have the above carrier oils or butters, here are alternatives. sweet almond, grapeseed, camellia, grapeseed, meadowfoam, hemp, camellia or olive.

Start by dissolving your menthol crystals. If you use essential oils in your formula, that can help. Adding some isopropyl alcohol might be required to fully dissolve. It takes a few minutes, Use only enough iso to dissolve the crystals.
Be very careful when using menthol. If you get some directly on your skin it may burn. At full concentration it is powerful
2 grams of essential oils if using
Use a small solid pvc type mold as silicone molds can be tricky to with. An ice cube mold works great. See our guest size lotus mold here.
INSTRUCTIONS
ONE: In a large bowl, combine the baking soda and citric acid. Break down all the lumps until the mixture resembles a powder. Use a metal strainer for faster results. Citric acid has a tendency to take off nail polish, so wear gloves to protect your manicure and a face mask to avoid breathing in the powders.October 06, 2020

Fall is here just in time to highlight our lip gloss tubes with wand applicators. Here is a simple formula to try at home with just a few ingredients:
96% soft oil of your choice. (can be combined with several oils)
1% Vitamin E Oil
1% Flavour (ensure is it oil based)
1% Mica or Lake colour of your choice (quantity depends on the colour and intensity of the desired shade)
Melt the wax and oil at low heat on top of the stove in a small stainless steel measuring cup. Keep your pot small for small recipes. We used 1/4 cup for 2 .x 11ml size lip gloss tubes
Remove from the heat and add your colour and flavor, stir until totally combined. The mixture will still be warm and can be poured within 1 or 2 minutes. This recipe is not for lip balm roll-up tubes. It has a much looser viscosity created especially for lip gloss tubes with wand applicator.
We used Abyssinian seed oil due to its comedogenic rating of 1 which signifies a very low chance of skin irritations. It is a very rich super light oil with no noticeable odour or flavor which does not interfere with the final product.
Shade test: to see if you are happy with the colour, take some and spread it onto a paper towel. If it is not too hot, try some on the back of your hand. Add more colour if required.
*Cautionary note. If using essential oils for flavor, do your homework. Some essential oils can burn your lips with very little quantity. Ones that come to mind: peppermint, cinnamon, allspice & clove

30 to 40 drops – Essential or Fragrance oil (optional) We recommend essential oil at safe usage rate
PH 4.38
Directions:
Heat all ingredients in the OIL PHASE in a pot until melted (Do not overheat/boil). To be safe a double boiler is recommended
In a separate vessel, heat the water in the WATER PHASE to 100 F. If the water phase is too hot, let it cool down to 100F to avoid separation in the final stage.
Mix heated WATER PHASE and heated OIL PHASE together with a hand mixer or stick blender. Blend for about two minutes to ensure that both phases have thoroughly emulsified.
Please do not mix by hand, no matter how novel that sounds. Stick blenders are required for stability and particle distribution, meaning less breaking down of your product.
Begin the FINAL PHASE by adding the 2 cups of distilled water room temperature or cold water.
Next, add the remaining ingredients and blend well.
Pour into your containers. Make sure it has totally cooled down before putting the caps on.

Cream of Tartar Bath Bombs
2 cups baking soda
1 cup cream of tartar
Witch hazel (until moldable texture)
Cream of tartar is less water-soluble, so it won’t dissolve as much in liquids.
Cream of tartar can also be substituted in bubble bath bars.
